Job complications? Here's How to improve your work environment

Do you ever feel the need to quit your job, yell at your boss or co workers and arrive late to work without caring who it might affect? If you answered yes to any of those questions then this post is for you.

I worked at Starbucks for 4 years consecutively and 5 years total because I got myself fired then re hired. I started out as being overzealous about the work and eventually when I was not shown appreciation through a promotion, I became angry and careless. I worked too hard and if any of my co workers came into work and did not match my hard work then I preferred not to work with them or I disliked them. If customers were too picky and exact with their drink, they were the customers that received sass. But I was forgetting one thing. There are two reasons why we are placed in a scenario and situation and the first is BY CHOICE. I chose to continue working at Starbucks for that many years in unhappiness because I disregarded my standards. Secondly, BY PURPOSE. Whilst some of the experiences were bad, I met many life changing people whom I grew strong bonds with and helped me realize that life is more than just going to work for a paycheck. Those experiences exceeded the negative ones and I began to notice that this life of mine is not just about me because we make an impact on the people we come in contact with everyday.

Here are some ways to make a less stressful work environment for yourself:

1. Leave your problems at the door.

Energy is contagious. You get to decide if you will have a bad day or a good day but just adjusting your attitude and perception of things.

2. Mind your own business.

Don't be the gossip girl/guy on the job. This will only complicate things. Be sure to keep your personal life and your job separate and don't worry about who is doing what if it does not concern you.

3. Do your job.

You are at work to work, it is not a social hangout. Your boss and co workers will be grateful when you clean up after yourself and don't leave an extra load of work for them to take on when the shifts change.

4. Smile.

A smile goes a long way and can brighten up someones day, remember that everyone has their own problems and no one has to deal with an undeserving attitude.

5. Switch jobs.

You have boundaries, if your job is giving you unfair or unjust treatment, leave. If you have been at a job for a long time you may need a change of surroundings. (click to see article)

6. Do one good deed a day.

Offer someone who is having a bad day a free meal, beverage or service. It pays maybe more than your job to be welcoming to others. It will also make you feel good.

7. Arrive to work early.

Give yourself some time to get settled in and mentally prepared for your work day. Rushing is stressful.

I began to notice the lessons that Starbucks had been teaching me all along. It was here where I began to change my life altogether and be of loving service to others. If it happens that every job you work, you cannot seem to like it, you may need to reflect inward because it starts with YOU. Maybe you're someone who needs to work for yourself but you cannot do that until you are able to work with others first.
