The Caterpillar journey
Ahhh nature! The thing we ignore most but, it is proven that if we listen and observe close enough, we can get a good lesson from it. Many times we are concerned with our thoughts of the past or the future. Eckhart Tolle tells us in his best selling novel "the power of Now" that now.. this present moment, is the most important. If we kick the bucket today then yesterday or tomorrow really was a waste of a worry which makes all things a waste of a worry.
I got one of my first conscious experience with nature when I spotted the caterpillar in the above photo. I was helping my friend get elected for school board trustee by handing out flyers with his poll info, and after a while it had gotten really quiet, no traffic, no people coming in and out of the school and so i decided to observe the trees and sky. I was looking for an explanation for the process i was encountering for the past few weeks. I barely looked at the ground but the second i did, my eyes landed straight on this caterpillar. Usually I am freaked out by bugs and stuff, but my inner voice said to relax and observe. I did, and the message that I got from it was mind blowing! The caterpillar walked over many rocks and sticks and fell over, then got back up. It fell again and again but it kept getting up and walking. It took approximately 5 minutes to reach its destination but it made it! The caterpillar at some point knew it would eventually become a butterfly. Is that what kept it going? Because it knew its walking now but eventually it would fly?
This caterpillar had completely reminded me of life! There are many times we fall.. like the caterpillar but the only thing that keeps us going, just as the caterpillar, is knowing that we will temporarily be down because our desire to fly is too great. I shared this story with a friend and she confirmed that what I was feeling was correct with an article on the caterpillar butterfly process. I was completely blown away because this totally describes the process of self awareness in which human beings encounter! Check it out here www.butterflymysteries.com/imaginal-cells.html .
