What you should know about conditioned patterns from your childhood upbringing
I believe that conditioning, which means the way you were brought up and influenced by your parents or the other people who raised you, is far more relevant in determining our behavior than genetics. Giving reliance to genetics communicates the message that we can't change many of the things about ourselves that we would like to change. Some people may have certain false or mistaken views about inherited traits. For example thinking that because your mother or your mother's mother was a couch potato, its an inescapable trait. You probably make an excuse for your behavior because it's in your genes, right? Wrong.
Much of who you are today was shaped by your upbringing. There is no genetic component to your laziness. By understanding your past and who you are, you will be able to make competent and lasting changes for you and your future.
Here are 6 ways to get rid of the old habits and characteristics that you dislike while maintaining the one's that you do:
Address the emotional pains and unpleasant experiences from your childhood: See article 2
We often shy away from dealing with our bad experiences, which is understandable but if you choose not to deal with it, it can be like stepping on an old rusty nail and covering it with a band-aid. If you do not heal and clean this wound it will become infected. Eventually without addressing your childhood wounds it can infect the health of your entire body.
Your emotional wounds work the same way and are just as congesting as your bad experiences. Trying to bury an old emotional wound leads to negative habits like binge drinking or relying on substances to give you a "for the moment" cure.
Be patient and loving with yourself during your healing process. It takes time. Be sure to recite some positive affirmations in the mirror everyday, and smile. You are beautiful.
2. Change your surroundings. See article 6
Change your conditioned patterns of socializing in places that are too familiar to your childhood experiences and may trigger the ill emotions of your past.
See how you can be of help in your community. Join spiritual centers or churches, travel, volunteer to help with environmental cleanups, or anything else that will get you outside in nature.
3. Remain present.
Sometimes we go through our days in all deep thought. We are either thinking about something that has happened in the past or something that needs to happen in the future. Slow down and acknowledge the now. It is the most important moment because if you were to kick the bucket today nothing else but that moment would matter.
4. Diet and Exercise.
"You are what you eat". If you are good to your body, your body is going to be good to you.
Eating the proper foods and exercising will have long lasting effects for your mind body and soul. You will feel whole and happy and in order to achieve complete lasting happiness please remember that your physical health and mental health go hand in hand.
5. Pursue your dreams.
Do something that you are passionate about. Remember that we are all here for a purpose. Inner turmoil can be brought about when we neglect our souls desire.
6. Allow someone special to love you: see article 5
Love is the strongest force there is. Falling in love can be scary but remember that you get what you give and like attracts like. Having people in your life to love and support you is an essential part of maintaining overall health.
Your belief system can have a big impact on everything else in your life. You get to decide what you want to embody and what circumstances will define you. Celebrate, because you are living, growing, breathing and experiencing new doorways to discover a new you everyday. If ever you have a questions, look to nature, be still and wait.
